Didsbury kept their title hopes alive with a hard fought victory away at Urmston Town.
Usually notorious for slow starts, it seemed the evening kick off helped Didsbury as they took the lead within the opening ten minutes, when a quick throw-in was laid off by Michael Stiff for Michael Corbett to beat the off-side trap and whip a low cross in for Kieran MacHugh to drill the opener into the roof of the net.
The early pressure by Didsbury paid dividends when a corner was cut back to the edge of the 18 yard box, where centre back Wayne Rogers hit a fierce low shot into the far corner to make it 2-0.
Urmston Town started to get the upper hand of the game in the closing stages of the first half. The ball was cleared off the line by Jonny Mackie when keeper Hargreaves parried a shot from a one on one.
Urmston continued to have the upper hand in the opening to the second half and made their pressure pay when a free kick positioned out on the right hand touchline, beat the Didsbury defence and goalkeeper Hargreaves, to find its way in at the far post.
The game then, like the weather, turned drab, with neither team troubling the opposing goal keepers and Didsbury held on for a much needed win.
