No slip-ups for Didsbury as they smash seven past Athletico Chorlton
Five first-half goals from Didsbury ensured an easy victory which puts them three points clear at the top of the MASFL Division 1 going into the top of the table clash with Lass O’Gowrie in a week’s time.
Icy conditions almost prevented the game from getting underway but after a pitch inspection Didsbury flew out of the blocks and Matt Harrison scrambled the ball in to give Didsbury the lead. Centre-back John Battersby put Didsbury two up within five minutes with a header from a corner.
Didsbury were dominating the game and Mike Stiff played a defence-splitting pass to release Colin MacDonald who carried the ball from a way out and finished from a tight angle to make it 3-0. A fine multi-pass move which Mike Stiff forced a fine save from a long-range drive was parried to Matt Harrison who volleyed a cross back into the area and Neil Creasey fired a superb volley making it 4-0. Creasey and Harrison combined once again to cap off a storming first half leading Didsbury in five goals to the good.
Didsbury eased off in the second period with a comfortable lead but there was to be no comeback from Chorlton. A flowing move forward from the back capitalised on more slack defending and Harrison combined with substitute Paul Trecarichi to slot coolly under the goalkeeper for the sixth goal and with five minutes to go the pair combined once again and Trecarichi picked up a ball on the run and fired into the top right corner to cap off a fine performance from AFC Didsbury.
